Many equipment manufacturers regard national and international standards, such as EN or BS as the benchmark to which their products must meet. This can lead to products being "designed down" to the standard, with specifications which only just meet the required level. This approach does not take into account wear and tear, and a "designed down" product, particularly those manufactured of textiles, such as harnesses and ropes, may not meet the relevant standard after only a few months use. For this reason heightec products have specifications well in excess of the minimum requirements specified by European standards - in some cases exceeding the requirement by up to 50%.
